Pria is a planet colonised by humans who've had no contact with Earth for centuries. The colony never really took off, perhaps because of the vitality of the abundant life on the heavily forested planet. Colonists are centred on Hometown, now an echo of a past that means nothing to current inhabitants, with technology increasingly decrepit. Some younger people have started new lives in the forests, and are dismissively called Natives.
Hometown is ruled by a Mayor – Emmet James Loscoe - who opposes resistance to his wishes with violence. In his mind at least, that's the only way to preserve the colony's future. Others are uncertain, and his daughter Mallory is vocal in criticising her father – but is it possible for her to be anything other than a copy of Emmet when she takes him on..? And what are the prospects for Hometown, with or without its brutal leader?
